Helmet came in and fits perfect. Riding footwear also came in today and fits like it was made for my foot. That’s 2 for 3! Pants are on the way, and I’m sending my jacket back. Gotta figure out a replacement for that, but once I do... Riding gear is solid. Still waiting on the Volvo to sell before buying a bike. Anyyyyyy day now.
Also took a Ducati for a spin. It’s everything I dreamed it would be, minus the yellow paint job. I’m still going to try getting some time with a Yamaha XSR900, and maybe one of KTM’s naked bikes, but I’m pretty sure the Monster is the one.

Gear looks solid. My buddy has a monster. That is a crazy bike. Is it your first bike?

Eh... Kinda. I had a 250 ninja 6 years ago for a few months.

I stopped riding a few years ago, but kept a jacket, boots, and gloves - never know when it could be handy.

I was contemplating just sticking with my leather high-top air force 1's... Then I remembered the videos in my class of people scraping their ankle bones on pavement. Hopefully I'll never need the armor

If you’re scraping your ankles on pavement while riding on city streets then footwear is the least of your issues. Also, leather is leather, it’ll protect you no matter how ugly the footwear is. People like to bag on Harley for selling an image, but every brand related to motorcycling is guilty of it.
I’ve gone down hard once. Burned my arm on account of my $500 leather Icon jacket tearing. Legs were fine on account of my $20 Dickeys.
You’re much more likely to slam into a car that makes a left in front of you, or get t-boned by someone trying to make a light. Riding motorcycles on coty streets is very dangerous, the gear mostly keeps you from getting minors injuries (helmets are the obvious exception).

I’m going to have to disagree there. Every crash is different. And riding footwear sometimes offers more protection than just ankle sliders. They may have toe sliders, stiffer soles, or shift pads. More technical boots often have a mechanism to prevent over extending or over rotating, or even structure to help prevent your leg being crushed.
And not all leathers are created equal. Material thicknesses and grain types all play a role, as well as quality and number of stitches.
Dickies are tough, I'll give you that. But I'd rather have armor and Kevlar.
Some gear can absolutely prevent major injuries. It may not. But I’d rather have the chance for protection than not. You don't see Rossi going down in Vans and Dickies.

Maybe I should have clarified, these were videos of people who had fallen and skidded for x feet along the pavement, shredding through their shoes. Nasty stuff

By all means, if you want to ride around in full race gear, like Rossi, go for it. However, you’ll still be missing the runoffs and marshals controlling traffic like he has.
There’s a reason world class riders, in world class gear, die every year on closed off street courses. Shit’s dangerous. I’d argue riding in city is much more dangerous than racing. I doubt whoever Yamaha has insuring Rossi would consider him riding in urban traffic an acceptable activity.
I’ve only been riding for about fourteen years, but I know guys who are going on half a century. The safety conscious ones don’t ride on the street.
It would be interesting to talk to a life insurance agent to see if they give better rates based on gear.

Always wear quality footwear, and don’t eat shit on a public street.

Oh I agree with you there. I just find a happy middle ground for myself. Moto shoes and jeans. Safer than non-moto stuff, but still comfortable enough to walk around in. Every little bit helps, but more than that for me usually isn't worth it.
